IMEI Checker

Every phone has a unique 15 digit IMEI. Enter it to validate the number instantly and decode what each part means. The check runs in your browser, the number never leaves your device. Find yours: dial *#06# or open Settings, General, About.

Dual SIM phones have two IMEIs (IMEI and IMEI2). Check both.

Digits 1 to 8: the TAC

The Type Allocation Code identifies the exact make and model in the GSMA database. It is how a checker knows the phone model.

Digits 9 to 14: the serial

Unique to your one handset. Two phones of the same model never share these six digits.

Digit 15: the check digit

A Luhn checksum. If it does not match, the number was mistyped or is not a real IMEI at all. That is the check this tool runs.

Buying a used iPhone? Read this first

  • ✓A valid check digit means the number is well formed. It does not prove the phone is clean.
  • ✓Activation Lock, carrier lock and stolen (blacklist) status live in carrier and GSMA databases, not in the number itself. Only a live database lookup can confirm them, so always test the phone signed out of the seller's Apple ID and with your own SIM before paying.
  • ✓Compare the IMEI in Settings with the one on the SIM tray and the box. Any mismatch is a walk-away signal.

About the IMEI Checker

Every phone carries a unique 15 digit IMEI, written as a TAC (the first 8 digits, which identify the model), a 6 digit serial and a Luhn check digit. This free IMEI checker validates that check digit instantly and decodes the structure, so you can spot a mistyped or invented number before you rely on it, especially when buying a used iPhone.

How to use it

  1. 1 Find the IMEI: dial *#06# or open Settings, General, About.
  2. 2 Type or paste the 15 digits into the checker.
  3. 3 Read the verdict: a matching check digit means the number is correctly formed, and the breakdown shows its TAC and serial parts.

Frequently asked questions

Can an IMEI check tell me if a phone is iCloud locked?+

No free check can. Activation Lock, carrier lock and blacklist status live in carrier and GSMA databases, not in the number itself. Always test a used phone signed out of the seller account and with your own SIM before paying.

Why does my phone have two IMEIs?+

Dual SIM phones carry one IMEI per SIM slot (IMEI and IMEI2). Check both; either can be the one a carrier has on record.

What if the check digit does not match?+

The number was mistyped or is not a genuine IMEI. Compare it digit by digit with Settings, the SIM tray and the box. Any mismatch is a walk-away signal on a used purchase.
