File Size Converter

Enter a size in any unit. Decimal (storage marketing) and binary (operating system) values are both shown, because they differ.

About the File Size Converter

Convert between bytes, KB, MB, GB and TB without the 1000 versus 1024 confusion. The converter shows both the decimal (storage marketing) and binary (operating system) values, so the number on the box and the number on your screen finally make sense together.

How to use it

  1. 1 Enter a size and its unit.
  2. 2 Read the value in every other unit, in both counting systems.
  3. 3 Use the binary column when comparing with what your device reports.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my 1TB drive show as 931GB?+

Drive makers count 1TB as 1000GB; operating systems count in binary, where 1TB is about 931GiB. Same bytes, different rulers. The converter shows both.

How many MB is a typical iPhone photo?+

Roughly 2 to 5MB as HEIC, 4 to 8MB as JPG, and 25MB or more as ProRAW. The Storage Calculator turns that into real counts.

What unit do upload limits use?+

Usually decimal MB. When a form says 10MB, stay a little under to be safe.
