AirPods Pro 3 vs AirPods 4: Which Earbuds Are Actually Worth It?

Both are excellent, but they are built for different ears and different budgets. This is the honest comparison before you spend.

AirPods Pro 3 vs AirPods 4: Which Earbuds Are Actually Worth It?

Apple now sells two brilliant pairs of wireless earbuds, and choosing between them is harder than it looks because they share so much. Both have great sound, both work beautifully with an iPhone, and both disappear into your pocket. The differences are in the details, and the details are what decide which pair you will actually enjoy every day.

The first difference is fit. AirPods Pro 3 come with silicone ear tips in several sizes that seal inside your ear canal. That seal is the foundation of everything the Pro does: it blocks outside noise before any electronics get involved, it keeps bass full and rich, and it keeps the buds in place during a run. AirPods 4 use an open design with no tips. They sit in the outer ear and feel like almost nothing is there. If you hate the feeling of something sealed in your ear, the open design is a genuine joy. If you want the world to go quiet, only the Pro gives you that.

Noise cancelling is the second difference and the biggest one. AirPods Pro 3 have active noise cancellation that is among the best you can buy in any earbuds. Put them in on a plane, a bus, or a noisy office, and the world drops away. AirPods 4 offer noise cancellation in one version, but an open design can only cancel so much because sound leaks in around the bud. It helps, but it is not in the same league. If your daily life includes commuting, flying, or working around other people, this alone settles the choice.

Sound quality is closer than the price gap suggests. The Pro sounds fuller, with deeper bass and a wider sense of space, thanks to that sealed fit. AirPods 4 sound clean and balanced, and for podcasts, calls and casual music they are genuinely good. Audiophiles will hear the Pro advantage immediately. Everyone else will mostly notice it on bass heavy tracks.

Battery life and the case are worth a mention. Both last around five to six hours per charge, with the case taking the total past a full day. The Pro case adds a speaker that helps you find it, wireless charging, and a lanyard loop. Small things, but they matter when you lose a case down the side of a sofa.

Price is the last factor and it is a real one. AirPods 4 cost meaningfully less, and for many buyers that saving buys the right product. If you mostly listen at home or in quiet places, dislike sealed ear tips, and want the lightest, most comfortable fit, AirPods 4 are the smarter buy and you will not feel shortchanged.

But if you commute, travel, work in noise, or want the best sound Apple puts in earbuds, AirPods Pro 3 are worth every extra cent. The noise cancelling transforms daily life in a way a spec sheet cannot convey. Buy the Pro if silence matters to you. Buy the 4 if comfort and price matter more. Either way, wait for a real discount before you pay full price, and check the price history first.
